The People Behind Scotsgrove
Leslie Scott is the owner, manager, and trainer behind Scotsgrove. She has a BS in General Agriculture with a minor in Pre-Vet, a two year certificate from the State University of New York in Riding School Instruction and Management, and has done graduate work in Equine Nutrition. A former American Horse Shows Association judge and NEPHA Instructor of the Year, she wrote the curriculum for and taught Horse Care and Stable Operations for Hennepin Technical College,
where she achieved a 98% placement of graduates into the industry. Her students have competed at the national levels and served on the Boards of local and national equine organizations. She has been teaching for over 35 years, with an excellent safety record. Currently, Mrs. Scott travels to teach and to judge when she is not at Scotsgrove. She teaches at all levels and any age over 6 years old. (photo by Caitlyn Ridgeway)
Our barn manager, Laurie Ridgeway, has been a valued part of the Scotsgrove team for over 10 years. A more than proficient rider, with show ring experience and success, she is a horsewoman who ensures the horses’ happiness and safety.

Leslie’s husband, Bob Scott, is owner and grounds manager of Scotsgrove. With many years in real estate and as the Master of Foxhounds in Minnesota, he has a wealth of knowledge in horses, hounds, and the lay of the land.

A relative newcomer to the Scotsgrove team as the second barn manager is Robert Mercer, aka Junior. His mechanical experience is an asset to the barn as well as his quiet nature with the horses.

Lindsey Harte, is one of Leslie's longest held riders who has stepped up to the plate of instructing and training the influx of students. She is a competent horsewoman in her own right, being the owner of Bailey. She is a great teacher for any level of our riders. Currently, Lindsey is away to complete her Ph.D but she'll be back before we know it!

Web Mistress, Email Moderator, and Substitute Instructor, Gwen Phifer, has been with Scotsgrove since 2001. She's the person behind the website and its growing changes as well as starting to instruct beginner lessons and trail rides.

With the influx in new students, Leslie’s older students are stepping up to the plate as beginning trainers, teachers, and barn hands.
We'd like to recognize our teen helpers Caitlyn, Katie, Abby, Ellie, and Emi as honorary members of the Scotsgrove Team devoting their time and hard work to making Scotsgrove a better place!
